Notable Guest Quotes

“No matter what industry you’re in, I think all of us feel that at times, where we all kind of wonder, ‘Am I doing things right?  Am I making the impact that I really want to make?’”

“A lot of times as songwriters we kind of – we jokingly say we pound things into submission – we pound until we’re like, ‘We’re gonna make this work, we’re gonna make this work,’ and sometimes that’s when you have to step back and go, ‘Are we trying a little too hard here?  Maybe we should just kinda step back from it.’”

“I think that music can heal in a way that sometimes nothing else can, and so that’s the coolest thing about being part of songs.”

“The number one question we get is, ‘Where do songs come from?’  And my answer is, everywhere.  You name it: books, sermons, conversations with friends, listening to other songs and an idea sparking in the middle of listening to a song you’ve heard a hundred times.  There is absolutely no shortage of… where an idea can come from.  The point for me as a songwriter is, get out and live your life.”

“Honestly, the hardest times that I’ve had in songwriting have been when I’ve been too ingrained in writing.”

“I don’t want to write another song just to write another song.  I think there’s enough noise in the world and I don’t want to contribute to the noise.  I want to write songs… that are going to encourage people and inspire people and challenge people, whatever that means on that particular day.”

“Growing up my dad always told me, ‘Karyn, if somebody asks you if you know how to do something, you tell ‘em Yes and then go figure out how to do it.’  And so, that’s just always been my motto.”

“Downloaded music nowadays has caused us as artists to take a financial hit.”

“Crafting for me is just one of these things that I’ve discovered in the last couple of years that, I just love it.  I really do love it.  I love taking a bunch of different things and just putting it all together into something beautiful.  Which is obviously why I love songwriting; it’s taking something, sort of out of nothing basically…  Writing a song is looking at a blank piece of paper and then hopefully in a few hours filling it up with a beautiful melody and beautiful lyrics.”

“I’ve learned that no matter what it is you’re doing, do it with everything you’ve got because you’re learning something that’s going to help you down the road.”
