Notable Guest Quotes

“We can’t necessarily choose the emotions that we feel and we can’t necessarily choose some of the things that we go through in life but we can choose what we do with it and how we handle it.”

“One of the hardest things for an independent artist is to get some of those opening slots with some large artists because usually labels kind of help each other out and have other up-and-coming artists (who are) on their label open for some of their bigger names.  So, all the times where I’ve gotten to open for some bigger artists, basically I was booked by the festival or the events that they really liked my music.”

“The more opportunities that are built, the more radio play I’ve gotten, the bigger shows that I’ve done with some bigger artists, the more albums I’ve sold, the more interviews I’ve done, all that stuff has definitely kind of compiled to a résumé that I can show to a festival or I can show to an event and say, ‘I’ve put this work in.  A lot of people are paying attention.’  But I’ve actually found, way more than that, over the years that the biggest thing is just personal connection.  Getting to know people.”

“I’ve always tried to go into these bookings and these situations and these opportunities with an attitude of being a servant.  How can I come into this church and be a blessing to this congregation?  And, I think when I go in with that attitude I kind of offer a certain amount of skills… I think I just try to go into every environment not looking at how can I get something out of this church or what kind of opportunity is this for me, but, really go in with the attitude of how can I bless this congregation?”

“Early on when I was playing I figured out it’s just important to play everywhere and anywhere you possibly can.  Every opportunity, no matter how big or small, you never know what’s going to come out of that opportunity, who you might meet.  And so, early on, I played (at) everything… You just never know what door is going to open.  It’s just really important to play as often as you can and meet as many people as you possibly can.”

“Once I started to create content, create music, that I felt was market competitive that I thought could actually stand up against some other stuff that I was hearing on Christian radio and some of the bigger artists, … I kind of asked around of how to get it out there … two things I found were that, whether you’re on a major label or an independent artist, you can still hire promoters.  And two things that, two areas to help get yourself out there is PR… and radio promoters.”
